January 10 & 11
We, Meghan and Hannah, are going to tell you about our first
few days here in Hong Kong. We have had
some different experiences, so we will tell you about what we each of us have
done separately.
Hi, Meghan
Darden here! So Hong Kong is amazing! Let’s start at the beginning though, so
we woke up on the 10th in Wuhan and headed out early to catch our
train. We traveled on China’s high speed
rail system hitting a top speed of 306 km per hour (fast!).
We arrived in Hong Kong in the afternoon and had a little trouble finding our tour guide, so we hung out in the train station for a while. Once we found our bus driver we hopped on the bus and headed for the boarder, getting through customs and immigration took a while but it wasn’t too bad. After that we got back on the bus and they took us to our motel, the Noah’s Arc Hotel and Resort!

It is so amazing, I will
attach a picture! So we got settled in
here and started our Hong Kong adventure.
So the group I went with headed straight for food, (mostly guys lol!) So
once we filled our stomachs we found a cool little market called Temple Street
Market that was very similar to the night market in Beijing.
So we hung out there for quite a while and
saw a lot of other groups, I think most of us ended up there at some point! We
all bought some fun little stuff and then took the subway back to our hotel to
get some rest.
So then
on the 11th we all got up and had breakfast downstairs in our
motel. Once we were ready to go, most of
us headed to church. It was Saturday
here, so we went to a Seventh Day Adventist Church with some of Kent’s friends. We had some issues finding them at the subway
station though because there were like ten exits to the station and they all
led to a different part of town. Once we
found Kent and Cheryl’s friend Jean she helped us walk to the church and we
were forty-five minutes late. I’m glad we got there when we did though because
we caught the end of the sermon and he was talking about how negativity would
ruin 2014. It was a great message and we
all got to sing some great hymns! After
the service was over the church members made a potluck lunch for us! It was so
fresh and yummy; it was just what we were all craving! So we ate and had some
great conversations with the locals. After words a group of couples took us on
an amazing hike. We went up a trail
called dragon’s back; it was the most gorgeous sight!
That was super fun! Then
we split up and went all different directions.
My group went to the ladies’ market, it was really big and similar to
Temple Street, although more clothes and shoes! We were pretty tired and went
back to the motel! To our friends and families: we
love and miss you! Don’t worry we are being safe and having a blast!
-This was my half :) Hannah will post her experiences soon!
